Erasmus Mundus Deadlines 2027-28: The Complete Calendar by Date
Live Erasmus Mundus deadline calendar for 2027 intake: 70+ EMJM programmes with verified scholarship deadlines from December 2026 to March 2027.

Every year, roughly a hundred Erasmus Mundus Joint Masters open one application window that closes between December and February — and the scholarship round is almost always earlier than the self-funded round. Miss the scholarship deadline and you can still get in, but you will pay tuition out of your own pocket. That makes the calendar the single most important document in an Erasmus Mundus application, so we maintain it live: as of today our database tracks 54 open Erasmus Mundus listings with verified deadlines pulled from each consortium's official page.
How the window works
The Erasmus Mundus cycle is unusually rigid. Programmes publish their calls from October onwards, most portals open in November, and the overwhelming majority of deadlines land in a five-week stretch between early January and late February. A handful of early movers — clinical linguistics, public policy, theatre studies — close on 1 December 2026, barely five weeks from today. The Erasmus Mundus scholarship itself covers participation costs in full, a monthly allowance of €1,400, plus travel and installation allowances based on where you live, and health insurance throughout — which is why the scholarship round attracts ten to twenty applicants per place.
Two more mechanics matter. First, you apply directly to each consortium — there is no central Erasmus Mundus application — and most consortia let you apply for up to three different programmes in one Erasmus+ call cycle while remaining eligible for the scholarship at all of them. Second, selection results usually arrive between March and May, leaving time to arrange visas before a September intake that typically involves moving between two or three countries.

After late February the list thins out dramatically: JANUS (security and defence) closes on 6 March 2027, and EESIC (engineering for environmental cooperation) stays open to 30 June for non-EU applicants. Several programmes — MultiDiverse and GOALS among them — have not announced their next round yet and will appear in the database as soon as they do.
Where the crowd is
Deadline volume tells you where competition concentrates. The January cluster is where most consortia close their scholarship round — which is also why recommendation-letter requests and transcript apostilles become impossible to arrange in the last week. Everything you need — referees contacted, transcripts stamped, English evidence sorted — should be done before the university winter break.
Strategy that actually works
- Pick three, not thirty. The consortium rules let you hold scholarship applications at up to three programmes; spread them across deadline months so a January rejection doesn't leave you with nothing in play.
- Read the eligibility line twice. Some programmes restrict by citizenship region, prior degree field, or a minimum grade average — all listed on each card before you invest a weekend in essays.
- Lead with your best-fit programme. Consortia share ranked lists; if two of your three picks are the same consortia, your rank can collide.
- Prepare for a March-April wait. Results come in waves; keep your visa documents — passport validity, funds evidence — ready so you can move fast on an offer.

Frequently Asked Questions
When do Erasmus Mundus applications open for 2027-2028?
Most consortia open applications in October-November 2026 for the September 2027 intake, with deadlines concentrated in December 2026-January 2027. A second cluster of programmes with rolling or spring deadlines closes February-April 2027. Because each consortium sets its own calendar, always verify the specific programme's site rather than aggregator dates.
Can I apply to more than three Erasmus Mundus programmes?
You may apply to as many as you like, but you can accept and hold only one EMJM scholarship at a time, and holding a prior EMJM scholarship disqualifies you. A practical cap of 3-5 well-chosen applications is wise given each requires tailored motivation letters; most consortia require separate documents and some run interviews in February-March.
How early should I prepare Erasmus Mundus documents?
Start by September 2026: gather transcripts, degree certificates, two reference letters, a passport and language proof, and check whether each consortium requires a degree recognition statement. Scholarship decisions arrive March-May 2027, and visa timelines for your first host country (often 6-10 weeks) make early spring preparation decisive.
