This Cookie Policy explains what cookies and similar technologies are, which ones NextApply uses, and how you stay in control of them.
What are cookies?
Cookies are small data files placed on your device when you visit a website. They help sites function correctly, remember your preferences, and — where allowed — measure performance or serve relevant advertising. Alongside cookies, sites commonly use browser storage (localStorage) to remember settings on your own device.
Strictly necessary cookies
These are required for the site to work and cannot be switched off. They keep the platform secure and remember the choices you make about privacy.
| Name | Purpose | Retention |
|---|---|---|
| nextapply-cookie-consent | Stores your cookie consent decision so we don't ask again. | Until you change or clear it |
| Maintenance / session flags | Used to detect maintenance state and secure admin sessions. | Short-lived / session |
Local storage (stays on your device)
The following preferences are stored in your browser only. They are never sent to our servers, and clearing your browser data removes them.
- theme — your light/dark appearance preference.
- nextapply:saved — the opportunities you bookmarked.
- nextapply:tracker — your application tracker entries.
- nextapply:checklist — your saved checklist progress.
- nextapply:announcement-dismissed — hides a site announcement you closed.
Advertising & analytics (consent required)
NextApply is free and funded through sponsor placements from educational partners. If you accept optional cookies, third-party services (such as our analytics and advertising providers) may set identifiers to measure impressions and clicks and to limit ad frequency. If you decline, live ad tracking is disabled and generic static banners are shown instead. Your choice applies before any of these services load.
How to control cookies
You can accept or reject optional cookies through the consent banner shown on your first visit, and change your mind at any time. Your browser also offers full control — including blocking or deleting all cookies — via its privacy settings.
