Project Overview
About the Position
The Department of Psychiatry at the University of Oxford advertises a DPhil studentship on investigating and modelling brain dynamics across species, based in Dr Andrea Luppi's research group and supported by his ERC Starting Grant. The project develops computational models of how brain activity is organised dynamically across species - bridging human and animal neuroimaging and electrophysiology - to understand which principles of brain organisation are conserved through evolution and how they break down in disease. Applications close at 12:00 noon UK time on Friday 6 November 2026 (advert code 27PSYCH02WEB).
The student will join Oxford's Department of Psychiatry, one of the world's leading psychiatric research environments, and the Luppi lab's work on connectomics, intrinsic neural timescales and whole-brain modelling. The studentship covers university fees and a tax-free maintenance stipend at the standard UKRI rate, and offers training in neuroimaging analysis, computational modelling and cross-species data integration within a collegial and international group.
Candidate Profile and Application
Applicants should hold, or expect to obtain, a first-class or strong upper-second-class master's degree in physics, neuroscience, psychology, mathematics, computer science or a related quantitative discipline, with demonstrated programming ability and enthusiasm for computational neuroscience. Applications are made through the studentships listing of the Department of Psychiatry, with a CV, transcripts, references and a statement of research interests; shortlisted candidates are interviewed before the studentship is awarded.
