Project Overview
About the Scholarship
Karolinska Institutet, Sweden’s medical university and home of the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine, offers the KI Global Master’s Scholarship to a small number of fee-paying students each year. The award covers the tuition fee of one of KI’s Global Master’s programmes — biomedicine, global health, public health sciences, nutrition science, molecular techniques in life science and related degrees. It is deliberately targeted: only students from outside the EU/EEA (who pay tuition at Swedish universities) are eligible, and only roughly ten scholarships are granted per year across all programmes, which makes the award both prestigious and competitive. Selection rests on the merit rating derived from your KI-CV form.

What the Funding Covers — and Does Not
The scholarship covers the tuition fee only (or the KI share of the fee for programmes delivered jointly with other universities). It does not pay living expenses, accommodation or travel, and there is no monthly stipend. Stockholm is an expensive city, and the Swedish Migration Agency requires proof of roughly SEK 10,000 per month of study when you apply for a residence permit — budget for this independently of the scholarship. Many KI students combine the award with the Swedish Institute Scholarships for Global Professionals (SISGP), external foundation grants or part-time work within the limits of their residence permit.
Eligibility Criteria
- Non-EU/EEA citizen liable to pay tuition at Swedish universities.
- Applied to a KI Global Master’s programme starting autumn 2027 via University Admissions by the January deadline.
- Paid the University Admissions application fee by 2 February 2027.
- Submitted the KI-CV form through University Admissions by 2 February 2027.
- First-year student meeting all entry and documentation requirements for the chosen programme.
How to Apply
The process runs in three steps. First, apply to your Global Master’s programme on University Admissions (Sweden’s central application portal) by the mid-January deadline and pay the application fee. Second, upload the KI-CV form to your University Admissions account by 2 February — this form drives the merit ranking. Third, complete the scholarship application on KI’s own portal during the 9–25 February window. Results are announced after the programme admission results are published, and scholarship holders receive a tuition-fee waiver applied directly to their student account.
Important Notes
The KI-CV form is the single most important document: it converts your academic history, research experience and publications into the merit rating that decides the award. Give it the same care as a personal statement, and quantify everything (GPA, credits, publications, lab techniques). Applicants who miss the 2 February KI-CV deadline are out of the running regardless of how strong their programme application is, so treat that date — not the 25 February window — as the real cut-off.
