Project Overview
About the Position
Uppsala University invites applications for a doctoral student in electrical engineering with a focus on power system adequacy. The project studies whether future power systems, with high shares of weather-dependent generation and new demands such as electrified transport and industry, will be able to meet electricity needs reliably across timescales.
The doctoral candidate will develop adequacy assessment models that combine generation, storage, network and demand representations, apply them to Nordic and European datasets, and analyse how policy and market design choices affect reliability. The position sits within the university's electric power and energy systems research, and doctoral students are employed on paid contracts under collective-agreement terms.
Candidate Profile
Applicants hold a master's degree in electrical engineering, energy systems, physics or a related field, with strong quantitative skills and programming experience. Prior work with power-system modelling or energy-system optimisation is an advantage. Admission runs through the university's third-cycle programme in electrical engineering.
