Simons-Ramanujan Fellowship Overview

This fellowship scheme, generously funded by the Simons Foundation, offers the opportunity for promising early career researchers living and working in low and middle-income countries to attend an INI programme as an academic visitor for one to three months. Fellows will be expected to participate in programme activities, which vary by programme, but may include seminars, workshops, and collaborative working. The visit to the programme will be an opportunity for Fellows to develop their own research and forge new connections.

Ramanujan Fellowships History

The fellowship is named after Srinivasa Ramanujan, a highly gifted Indian mathematician of the early 20th century, who was invited to Cambridge in 1914 by G H Hardy. Even though he had little formal training, he is recognised as having had a significant impact on several areas of mathematics.

What Does the Fellowship Offer?

A Ramanujan fellowship will provide the recipient with accommodation, a £25 per diem and up to £1200 for travel to INI.

Fellows with caring responsibilities may apply for an additional allowance of up to £75 per day for housing and childcare costs.

Please note – Fellows will be academic visitors of the Isaac Newton Institute, not employees.

Eligibility and Requirements

  • Ramanujan Fellowships are open to applicants who reside in a low or middle-income country according to the International Mathematical Union (IMU) classification
  • Fellows can stay between 1-3 months
  • Applicants should be in at least the 3rd year of their PhD

Eligible Programmes

2027:
