Project Overview
About the Position
Eindhoven University of Technology (TU/e) invites applications for a PhD position on contrast ultrasound imaging of nanobubbles for cancer diagnostics, funded within the NWO MOMENTUM programme. The project develops next-generation ultrasound contrast agents - nanoscale bubbles small enough to escape the vasculature and image tissue beyond blood vessels - and the imaging sequences needed to detect them sensitively and safely. The goal is a diagnostic platform that can characterise tumours non-invasively and at low cost, complementing existing imaging modalities in oncology.
The doctoral candidate will work at the interface of acoustic engineering, physical chemistry and translational imaging: designing and characterising nanobubble formulations, developing ultrasound pulse sequences and image-processing methods, and validating performance in preclinical settings. The appointment follows the Dutch CAO-NU collective agreement with a starting salary of EUR 3,204 per month, and is embedded in a biomedical engineering environment with clinical collaboration partners.
Candidate Profile and Environment
Applicants hold a master's degree in biomedical engineering, applied physics, electrical engineering or a related discipline, with an affinity for acoustics, signal processing or colloidal systems. Experience with ultrasound, imaging or micro/nanoparticle systems is an advantage. TU/e offers the doctoral candidate the university's graduate programme, and the project connects to the hospital partners of the MOMENTUM programme, giving exposure to the path from laboratory innovation to clinical diagnostics.
