Project Overview
2-year tax-free postdoctoral scholarship in interactive perception for agri-robotics at Umeå University. 720,000 SEK total. Starts 18 Jan 2027. Apply by 15 Sept 2026.
Project Description The Department of Computing Science at Umeå University offers a postdoctoral scholarship within the project "Robot-plant interaction for improved plant monitoring and early drought detection". The scholarship is full-time for two years with access on 18 January 2027 or as agreed. Last day to apply is 15 September 2026.
The project focuses on developing robotic methods for plant health monitoring that combine robot-plant interaction with multi-modal perception and machine learning. Current noninvasive agricultural monitoring relies primarily on passive sensing, limiting sensitivity to early-stage plant stress. This project investigates how controlled, non-destructive interaction with plants can elicit measurable responses that improve detection of physiological changes.
Research Environment The successful candidate will join the Collaborative Robotics Lab. Research spans AI-driven robotics, explainable human-robot interaction, robotic vision and perception, agricultural robotics, collaborative motion planning, physics-informed control, and digital twin technologies.
Financial Coverage - Tax-free scholarship financed by KEMPE Foundations. - Amount: 720,000 SEK for two years (360,000 SEK per year).
