Fully FundedUmeå, Swedenpostdoctoral· Scholarship stipend for 2 years (amount not specified).
Project Overview
2-year postdoctoral scholarship in bioinformatics at Umeå University. Research on transposable elements and aging human brain. Starts Sept 2026. Apply by 11 Sept 2026.
Project Description The Department of Medical and Translational Biology at Umeå University offers a postdoctoral scholarship in bioinformatics within the project "Transposable elements and the aging human brain: Functional Insights and therapeutic opportunities". The scholarship is full-time for two years with access starting September 2026 or by agreement.
The research will be carried out in the Horváth lab, which offers an international, dynamic, and stimulating multidisciplinary research environment. The lab is part of the Wallenberg Centre for Molecular Medicine (WCMM) at Umeå University.
Research Focus Human brain aging is a main risk factor for neurodegenerative disorders. The project studies the role of transposable elements (TEs) in this process. TEs occupy 50% of the human genome and are strong gene regulators. The project focuses on white matter and oligodendrocytes, using post-mortem human brain samples to generate integrated multi-omics datasets characterizing changes in DNA methylation, chromatin regulation, and TE and gene expression during aging.
