Project Description The Department of Medical and Translational Biology at Umeå University offers a postdoctoral fellowship in experimental research focusing on the musculotendinous system. The scholarship is full-time for two years, beginning 1 November 2026 or by agreement. Application deadline is 1 October 2026.
Research Focus The project investigates mechanisms regulating tendon healing and the functional communication between muscle and tendon cells. The aim is to characterize factors within the muscle cell secretome during mechanical loading and unloading, and to elucidate their role in tendon healing and underlying signaling pathways.
Key Techniques - Establishment, isolation, culture, and differentiation of primary human muscle, tendon, and inflammatory cells. - In vitro models for mechanical loading of muscle cells. - Three-dimensional in vitro models for tendon formation and healing. - Omics techniques including RNA sequencing and proteomics. - Protein analyses: Western blot, ELISA. - Gene expression analysis: qPCR.
- Study design, method development, and scientific writing.
Qualifications
- PhD degree or equivalent foreign degree. Must be fulfilled no later than decision on fellowship recipient.
- Priority to candidates who obtained PhD within three years prior to application deadline. Special grounds (illness, parental leave, etc.) may extend.
- Strong background in experimental research is an advantage.
- Experience with molecular and biochemical techniques: qPCR, immunochemistry, Western blotting.
- Experience with primary cell culture of human muscle and tendon cells or similar.
- Experience with co-culture systems and clinical exercise studies is advantageous.
- Ability to take initiative and work independently and in a team.
- Good oral and written communication skills in English.
