Project Overview
About the Position
Maastricht University recruits a promotendus (doctoral candidate) in cardiogenetics, focusing on cardiomyopathy and risk prediction, with a start in January 2027. Inherited cardiomyopathies are among the most common genetic heart conditions, and predicting which patients will develop severe disease remains a major clinical challenge. The doctoral project uses clinical genetics data, family history and genetic test results to improve risk prediction models that guide screening intervals, lifestyle advice and preventive treatment for patients and their relatives.
The position is a salaried four-year doctoral appointment under the Dutch CAO-NU collective agreement within the Department of Clinical Genetics and collaborating cardiology research groups at Maastricht University Medical Centre. The doctoral candidate will assemble and analyse clinical and genetic cohort data, contribute to model development and validation, and translate findings toward clinical practice. The vacancy is advertised in Dutch and contact with patients and families makes Dutch working proficiency important.
Candidate Profile and Clinical Setting
Applicants hold a master's degree in medicine, biomedical sciences, genetics or a related field, with an interest in cardiovascular genetics and data-driven research. Affinity with statistics or machine-learning approaches is an advantage. Maastricht UMC+ offers structured PhD training, and the candidate will work in a cardiogenetics team that combines outpatient care with registry-based research on inherited heart disease.
