Project Overview
About the Position
Radboudumc recruits a promotendus (doctoral candidate) for the DACIL project, an evaluation of a digital COPD coach, based in Nijmegen. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) places a heavy burden on patients and healthcare systems, and digital coaching promises personalised support for self-management between clinic visits. The doctoral project evaluates the validity and diagnostic value of the digital coach's AI-based measurements and sensor data within a randomised controlled trial, asking whether the technology improves care without adding burden or inequality.
The position is a salaried four-year doctoral appointment under the Dutch CAO-NU collective agreement at Radboudumc. The doctoral candidate will contribute to the RCT protocol and execution, analyse sensor and app data, assess diagnostic accuracy against clinical references, and study how patients and professionals experience the technology. Because the research runs within Dutch clinical settings and with Dutch-speaking patients, professional working proficiency in Dutch is expected.
Candidate Profile and Working Environment
Applicants hold a master's degree in health sciences, medicine, biomedical sciences or a related field, with an interest in digital health, AI validation and clinical evaluation methods. Experience with RCT procedures, sensor data or implementation research is an advantage. Radboudumc provides structured doctoral training, and the candidate joins a digital-health research team spanning pulmonology, data science and health technology assessment.
