Eligibility Criteria
- Formal qualifications: Applicants must hold a PhD or equivalent foreign doctoral degree in Medical Sciences, Life Sciences, or a closely related discipline. The doctoral qualification must be completed no later than the time the scholarship recipient is formally selected. Candidates who have not yet formally received their PhD may apply if they provide documentation showing expected completion date.
- PhD recency rule: Preference is given to applicants whose doctorate was completed within three years of the application deadline. Earlier graduates may still be considered where justified by career interruptions such as parental leave, illness, military service, or similar circumstances.
- Desired research experience: Molecular biology and bacterial genetics; microscopy experience, particularly with Alphaproteobacteria; knowledge of cell-wall biology and peptidoglycan recycling; ability to conduct research independently and work in multidisciplinary teams; good written and spoken English. Experience with protein purification or biochemical analysis of bacterial cell walls is an additional advantage.
